Customers of Sterling Bank plc nationwide have commended the bank for instituting a reward system for users of its ATMs during the ongoing ATM activations across the country.
They express the opinion that such an exercise would encourage the use of ATMs in the country in line with the cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Speaking on the modalities for the activation, the bank’s group head, strategy and communications, Shina Atilola, explained that customers who carry out transactions on Sterling Bank’s ATMs at selected branches will be prompted to experience the One Customer treatment of their choice from the list of gifts and activities on offer.
With this initiative, he said the bank will create a conducive environment to interact directly with users of these channels. At the end of the experience, these individuals, according to him, will have a better understanding of the “One-Customer” proposition.
Atilola said: “As a responsible financial institution, Sterling Bank is committed to projects that would enrich the lives of its customers and at the same time support the laudable initiatives and policies of the CBN, particularly the cashless policy.
”This initiative will encourage card users to actually transact with their cards while those yet to obtain theirs will have no reason not to obtain theirs.”
As the promoter of this initiative, Atilola said the ATM activation will further deepen brand awareness and street visibility, adding that the ATM activation will convert the bank’s share of awareness to actual affinity with customers.
Ogundokun Anuoluwapo, a businessman who won one of the gift items on offer, described the ATM Activation campaign as a unique platform to encourage the use of ATMs by the banking public, adding that ”this also confirms that
Sterling Bank is a responsible corporate institution in the country.”
He was optimistic that this initiative would lead to an increase in the volume of transactions via ATMs and position Sterling Bank as a leader in the ATM revolution aimed at encouraging Nigerians to go cashless.
His words: “The ATM activation is a wonderful idea that should be replicated by other banks to encourage the use of ATMs. The beauty of this exercise is that irrespective of the Bank you use, once you use a Sterling Bank ATM, you are automatically qualified to be part of it.
This is the first of its kind in Nigeria and we commend Sterling Bank for this initiative.”
Similarly, Mopelola Ajanaku, a customer of another bank who came to use the bank’s ATM and got rewarded for it, noted that “if more banks in the country take a cue from what Sterling Bank is doing, more Nigerians would embrace the use of ATMs instead of carrying cash from one location to the other given the risk associated with it.”
It would be recalled that the bank last month commenced a six week ATM activation exercise in a move that would further deepen the use of ATMs as an alternative channel for banking transactions in Nigeria and in line with its corporate social responsibility leaning towards enriching lives.
