Oyo/Osun Customs command generates N15.2bn in 2014

The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated a total of N15.205 billion as revenue in 2014 fiscal year.

This is an increase of 10 percent over N12.139 billion revenue realised in 2013.

According to Richard Oteri, the area comptroller, last year figures were generated mainly from excise duties and duty from fairly used imported vehicles which amounted to N14.561 billion and N644.023 million, respectively, between January and December last year.

Reviewing activities of the command in 2014, Oteri said 453 seizures were made in the area of anti-smuggling, which included 30,000 rounds of live cartridges ammunition concealed with yam and dry cassava flour.

Also seized were 14,636 six 50kg, 23 25kg and 20 10kg bags of rice.

He further mentioned that 125 bags and 60 wraps of Cannabis (Indian hemp) and 28,343 cartons of imported frozen poultry products (Turkey) and various general merchandise like used tyres, vegetable oil, textiles, etc, were also seized in 2014.

The comptroller stated that in 2013, 270 seizures were recorded, this represented an increase of 25 percent of 453 seizures recorded for 2014. The customs boss however said that the command was poised to continue building and improving on the achievements so far made, both in the areas of revenue generation and anti-smuggling feats.
