Mansard Insurance, Guinness, Skye Bank win 2014 Nigerian Risk Awards

The 2014 edition of the Nigerian Risk Awards (NRA) organised by Conrad Clark Nigeria Limited in partnership with BusinessDay, Thomson Reuters and the Institute of Risk Management UK (IRM), has held in Lagos with deserving individuals and companies like Mansard Insurance, Guinness Nigeria and Skye Bank, among others, winning awards.

NRA recognises and honours organisations and individuals who have achieved measurable results through effective implementation of good governance, effective internal controls and risk management systems.

The BusinessDay Risk Manager of the Year was won by  Adewale Akinwale of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company, with  Omokayode Oluwole (Mansard Insurance) and  Olaniyi Olalemi (Enterprise Bank) being 1st and 2nd runner-ups, respectively.

Kunle Odetola-Odeleye of Old Mutual Nigeria carted home the Young Risk Manager of the Year award and the 1st runner-up was Jolaolu Fakoya of Africa Reinsurance Corporation.

Mansard Insurance emerged winner in the Insurance and Pensions category for the second time running, with Goldlink Insurance plc and Africa Reinsurance Corporation as 1st and 2nd runner-ups, respectively.

Guinness Nigeria plc won the Manufacturing, Production and Industry category and the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company was 1st runner-up. The Banking and Investment Services saw Skye Bank plc emerged as winner and Sterling Bank plc 1st runner-up.

In the Special Recognition Awards category,  Victor Odozi, former deputy governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, and Joseph Ajibola of Babcock University were honoured with the award for promoting Risk Management Culture in Nigeria. Channels TV received the Special Recognition Award for Risk Leadership in Media Coverage.

Speaking at the ceremony graced by some of the leading global authorities in risk management, founder, Nigerian Risk Award and CEO, Conrad Clark Nigeria Limited, Joachim Adebayo Adenusi, said ”the awards recognise individuals who have conquered business challenges through innovative risk management solutions, showing commitment, courage and effectiveness, which eventually made their companies stand out.”

He said: “The Risk Manager of the Year and the Young Risk Manager of the Year award is presented to an individual who has shown aspiration, inspiration and enthusiasm which in turn have promoted risk management within their organisation with demonstrable results. ”The organisational awards go to companies that have produced better results through efficient risk management practices.”

He revealed that all companies who entered for the Award competed equally regardless of size under the experienced and unbiased 19-member panel of judges.
