As part of its contribution to securing a better future for the upcoming generations, Diamond Bank has reiterated its commitment to youth development, especially in the arts.
Speaking at an awards and dinner night of the Vision of the Child (VOTC) that gathered a great number of young adults in Lagos recently, Uzoma Dozie, managing director, Diamond Bank, said it was imperative to prepare the young ones for the future and by having a vision of it and painting the future through a deliberate effort in the area of one’s passion.
Dozie noted that the bank, as the sponsor of VOTC, had helped in reaching out to over 4,000 students from over 2,000 schools across Lagos State, among whom were those who came to showcase their creative talents in painting, photography, poetry dance and others in line with the theme of Lagos@50, ‘Enhance the Heritage, Look at the Future.’
For Dozie, “how we want Nigeria to be in 20 years can be done now by imagining the future and painting it. To really imagine the future, you have to paint the future. That is one thing we have not been doing in Nigeria.
“How do we want Nigeria to be in 20 years? We start to paint it now. That is why Diamond Bank believes in the future of our children and is helping to invest in it. It is a privilege to partner with VOTC since 2012. Our heritage is important to us and we need to go back and enhance it. Thousands of students have been trained so far and we are happy with their progress that we see.”
Also speaking at the event, Wole Soyinka, the Noble Laureate, presented mementoes to the organisers, while appreciating them for supporting young adults and for enhancing Nigerian heritage.
Winners in the different arts contest were unveiled and given gifts and cash prizes. VOTC, envisioned by Foluke Michaels, is aimed at hearing the voices of children, train and equip them to lead change.
