In its continued effort to drive the ideal use of global best practice in information technology service management operation across West Africa, Digital Jewels, a leading best practice standards consulting firm in West Africa, recently partnered VTD Communications to achieve ISO 20000 certification.

Adedoyin Odunfa, CEO, Digital Jewels, while speaking at a public presentation of the certification in Lagos, said as strategic consulting partner to VDT Communication responsible for guiding the organisation through the rigorous and painstaking process of achieving certification in information technology service management, “the company is pleased to have achieved this feat.”

According to her, “VDT’s quest to implement and certify to this global BPS and its subsequent accreditation is a vivid demonstration of the company’s proactive and dynamic outlook. Unlike several other organisations who are today seeking certification to GBPS essentially to fulfill compliance requirements, VDT had no such pressures.”

Odunfa pointed out that VDT’s aspiration to implement this standard seemed primarily from its desire to deliver world-class service and by so doing distinguish itself, saying that this was a note worthy gesture and worthy of commendation.

The certification was the first internationally-recognised standard for ICT management, comprising end-to-end services such as daily commitments, support, management and customer feedback, she said.

Earlier in his address at the occasion, Biodun Omoniyi, managing director, VDT Communications, said the desire to serve customers better was the driving force behind the vision to achieve top-notch service delivery, as the certification would also be a motivation.

Omoniyi said with the certification, VDT could now ensure “reduction in incidence, improved incidence management, reduction in response time and interruption to ICT services, improved cost management and continual improvement in operations.”

According to him, “the ISO 20000-1 certification benchmarks VDT’s ICT management capability and assures our customers that we are a world-class ICT organisation.”

Chris Maskell, director, United Kingdom Trade Investment, said “the ISO 20000 certification will enable VDT to adopt an integrated process approach to effectively deliver services to meet business and customer requirements.

To him, “the provision of well-coordinated and integrated service management processes will ensure that VDT maintains ongoing-control, greater efficiency and opportunities for continual improvement.”

He commended Digital Jewels for its strategic partnership with VDT in promoting full integration of IT services with business strategies while providing a formal framework for service management.

Omolola Abolarinwa, assistant general manager, service management, in explaining VDT’s desire for international standard, said the firm’s principle of continual improvement ensured it did not experience retrogression as every achievement was a benchmark that called for checks and how next to improve ICT services.

On her part, Bimbo Ikumariegbe, VDT’s general manager, sales and marketing, said the certification was a testament to the firm’s focus on customers’ satisfaction.
