Citi’s conference underscores treasury efficiency, growth in aviation industry

The 2015 Citi-Aviation Forum has drawn attention to possibilities of growth in the Nigerian aviation industry if treasury efficiency and other smart trends are adopted.

The event themed ‘Leveraging Global Banking Trends for Smart Aviation in Nigeria’ brought together key players in the aviation industry from across Nigeria. It served as an opportunity for Citi to share valuable insights on important banking trends and best practices for smart aviation in the country.

Citi’s Managing Director/CEO, Omar Hafeez gave the opening remarks at the conference and highlighted Citi’s leadership role in being the dominant bank for airline operators in Nigeria. He also elaborated on Citi’s commitment to improving the standard of aviation banking services in Nigeria to the benefit of all players in the industry including regulators, airlines and passengers.

Chief Operating Officer, Akin Dawodu gave a macro overview on the recent market events in relation to the Nigerian economy. He spoke on the latest changes in the regulatory framework for foreign exchange transactions, a subject of great interest to the forum attendees. He also provided an outlook for likely economic trends in the rest of 2015 while stating the importance of the successful conduct of the recent elections.

“IATA has been the backbone of aviation training in Nigeria” IATA, Area Manager for South-West Africa, Mr. Samson Fatokun said at the conference.

Also speaking at the conference, the representative of the Director General of Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Peter Adeola reassured the audience that adequate measures are in place by NCAA to ensure that compliance and best safety standards are implemented in Nigeria’s aviation industry. He commended Citi for organizing a stakeholder’s forum which brought together major players in the aviation industry to propel growth and improvement in the sector.

Citi remains committed to working with the airline operators and regulators in Nigeria to propel growth and development in the country’s aviation sector.
