President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Garba Abubakar, the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
Abubakar was appointed to replace the former Acting Registrar General, Azinge Azuka, who was sacked on the 29TH of December, last year, on the orders of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), for alleged gross misconduct.
In a statement, the CCT spokesperson, Ibraheem Al-Hassan, disclosed that the CCT ordered the Minister for Trade and Industry to appoint a replacement for Azinge based on a motion by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
This followed the arraignment of Azinge before the CCT on December 23, on an 11-count charge marked: CCT/ABJ/03/2019.
The statement said Azinge was accused of, amongst other things, the concealing of her naira, euro and dollar domiciliary accounts in Access Bank Plc and Standard Chartered Bank.
Until his appointment, Garba Abubakar was the Director in Charge of Compliance at the Commission.
The appointment was conveyed in a letter by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,
The letter also announced the appointment of Ademola Razak Seriki as the Chairman, Governing Board of the commission.
The letter stated that the tenure of their appointments should be in line with the provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act.
