BBOG set to bridge capacity gap with new diving institute

As part of efforts to bridge the capacity gap in the offshore engineering section of the Oil & Gas sector, Broron Oil & Gas Limited (BBOG) in partnership with MOS Marine offshore services of Singapore are set to establish a diving School in Lagos.

The Singaporean company which has been in partnership with BBOG since 2011 offer services in the area of mobilisation/demobilization of Diving and ROV equipment; Lashing facilities offshore equipment vessels and barges; Engineering designs and fabrication works; procurement services for Diving systems, amongst others.

At a media parley to announce the establishment of the school, Henry Ojogho, CEO, Broron Oil and Gas Limited said the Diving School which will be sited in Lagos will offer training on Air/Saturated Diving Systems and subsea intervention and maintenance services to Nigerians and get them more involved in offshore operations to become beneficiaries of the local content law.

Ojogho, whose company also offer wide spread services on sea engineering, offshore installation, offshore vessel services, construction and commissioning services, added that the initiative to set up the Diving School in Nigeria was also borne out of a determination to expand the manpower capacity and technical in-depth of younger Nigerians to be able to compete favourably with foreigners in offshore engineering services.

He called on the Nigeria government to keep creating the enabling environment for indigenous companies in the oil and Gas sector, particularly those in the offshore services for them to enjoy equal treatment if not more than the foreign service firms who presently enjoy more patronage from International Oil Companies (IOC’s) courtesy of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The Broron boss lamented a situation whereby the local content law, which was meant to benefit indigenous companies, has continued to deprive them of business deals in the Oil and Gas sectors while their foreign counterpart; are getting better patronage at the expense of local firms.

Also, speaking, Sam Yeo, managing director of MOS Marine Offshore Services Limited, observed that Nigeria is blessed with large population while her teeming youths are not being well  mobilized enough for meaningful engagement, adding that the Diving School when established will add value to manpower development of Nigeria, youths.
