I shouted, I fell off my chair, and I could not take it anymore. I moved to the kitchen when it became 5-0  against Brazil. Brazil was playing Germany it was a calamity . the commentators on all channels were struggling for the right words to use describe what was unfolding our very eyes.

21st century brazil in the semi- final and disintegrating like a mould of ice in a hot summer day. The Germans were all over the place. The field was doted with their black and red jerseys everywhere and then the yellow jerseys seemed clueless making silly mistakes and letting the Germans have a field day on their home soil.

By the time they were done, it’s no longer news that the Brazilian had lost their mystique and their image was in tatters. Who would have thought that they would lose 7-1 to another country. This is a nation that gave us samba in football, their dribbles were like gazelled.we watch Brasilian on the field of play in awe, our mouth agape, goose bumps all over us. Surely these people cannot have come fro planet earth. These people are definitely from another planet Brazilios maybe or something to that effect where little boys are given a gift of a football half their size when they are born.

This is Brazil for goodness sake. Everyone reference them, everyone wanted to be like them. On the day they played the Germany they were like kindergarten kids practicing football for the first time. It was an unmitigated disaster describe by one commentator as one of the worst lost in world cup history, and yet it was brazil.

The stars in our eyes fell out and we were no longer the same. I watched the Germans as they threatened cheekily to score more goals and humiliate Brazil on their homesoil in front of an army of Brazilian fans. There were tears and tears, they were breathtaking moments as much adoured football nation with players who became Gods of football past and present crumble before the world.

Germany were smiles, patted each other on the back and ran for more goals. The Brazilian coach looked stoic an seed slightly unperturbed . ther were those who felt like maybe the Brazilian football were paid to  betray their nation. I don’t know about that there will be a matter for another day  and principally for football historian and analysts

In the main time the Dutch were edge out of the final by what seem like a less formidable Argentinean team. After a draw and extra time, it was off to my favourite nerve-wracking moment, penalty shot out

I was nervous for Netherlands as they are always nearly there and as my people would say, nearly does not kill a bird. So they lost out again in what was a hard fought semi-final.

Now is time to buy snacks and tea and fruit for Saturday.
