Citibank Nigeria Limited, in honour of this year’s Global Money Week and Financial Literacy Day reinforced the Bank’s commitment towards youth empowerment and development through a fully interactive day session on Financial Literacy with the students of Army Day Secondary School, Ikot Ansa, Calabar.
The event held on March 13, 2014 and was organized in partnership with Junior Achievements of Nigeria (JAN), a financial education non-governmental organization. The program focused on educating Nigeria’s youth about their economic environment whilst impressing upon them the importance of saving, entrepreneurship and financial value creation.
The Managing Director and CEO of Citibank Nigeria Limited, Omar Hafeez, was present at the occasion to deliver the lecture. While addressing the students Mr. Hafeez stressed the need for the youth to be financially aware and empowered to make monetary decisions.
He further encouraged the students of Army Day Secondary School to prioritise their needs over their wants in order to cultivate the habit of saving.
Also present at the occasion was the Principal of Army Day Secondary School, Tina Efiok, the Vice Principal of Army Day Secondary School, Mrs. Bassey Ewa, a senior teacher of Army Day Secondary School (and a JAN Volunteer) Mrs. Priscilla Clearence Uket, a Programs Manager for Junior Achievement Nigeria, Rita David-Odion and Vice President, Global Subsidiaries Group, Citibank Nigeria Limited, Theresa Evuleocha.
Global Money week is a yearly celebration which is commemorated across the world in honour of empowering the youth to be involved in reshaping their finances and their futures. In line with this, the Financial Literacy and Public Enlightenment Sub-Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Bankers Committee launched Financial Literacy Day on March 13, 2014. Financial
Literacy day serves as a time to focus on Nigeria’s youth in primary and secondary schools nationwide, equipping them through the enhancement of their financial knowledge and planning skills.
