Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Dário Essugo from Sporting Lisbon in a deal worth £18 million.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Spanish side Las Palmas, featuring regularly as the club suffered relegation from La Liga. He will be eligible to feature for the Blues at the FIFA Club World Cup later this month.

Essugo rose through the ranks at Sporting and made history in March 2021, becoming the youngest player to appear for the club’s first team at just 16 years old.
Chelsea had initially reached agreements for both Essugo and Geovany Quenda in March. While Essugo joins immediately, Quenda will remain at Sporting until the end of the 2025/26 season before completing a £44 million move to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are also looking to further strengthen the squad as they close in on a £30 million deal for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, with an announcement expected in the coming days.
