The Defence Headquarters has announced that the fourth edition of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Unity Basketball Championship (South-West Zone) will take place from September 30 to October 5, 2025, at the National Stadium and Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
The annual basketball championship, organised under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (OFR), is part of the Armed Forces’ non-kinetic approach to security, using sports to foster unity, discipline, resilience, and teamwork among Nigerian youths.
This year’s edition will feature 12 elite male basketball teams drawn from the South-West and neighbouring states, including a military team. Fans will also enjoy Veterans’ exhibition games, adding a nostalgic edge to the competition.
The tournament will reward excellence with cash prizes, medals, trophies, and certificates, alongside special honours such as Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Best Player of the Tournament.
Speaking ahead of the event, General Musa said, “The Unity Basketball Tournament is more than just a game. It is a platform to unite communities, inspire the youth, and reinforce the values of teamwork and discipline. Through non-kinetic approaches, we aim to promote a stronger, more united Nigeria.”
The CDS Unity Basketball Championship has become a flagship initiative in promoting peace and nation-building through sports, while also strengthening community bonds across Nigeria.
