Following the aftermath of a poor and narrow win over Congo in Port Harcourt on Sunday, in the quest for the Olympic ticket. The Nigerian U-23 side faces an uphill task for the quest for Rio 2016 Olympics qualifiers in Congo.
In a bid to avoid fix the loopholes and correct the tactical lapses encountered in the first leg, the Nigeria Football Federation technical committee is leaving no stone unturned as the football house have summoned Dream Team VI coach, Samson Siasia, to an urgent strategic meeting on how to make amendments in the team and ensure that Nigeria qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
Although coach Siasia has assured Nigerians that his boys will conquer Congo and make it to the Olympic
He expressed confidence that his boys will complete their mission of beating Congo in front of their fans at the Pointe Noire stadium.
The former Super Eagles attacker admitted that the game is still open and he will push his players to the limit to achieve the needed victory and ensure they are one step closer to the 2016 Olympics.
“My boys worked hard on the pitch and every one played very well. But sincerely speaking I think the game is still open. So we need to work hard before the second leg and go to Congo in search of victory,” Siasia assured.
“It was an explosive match from both sides and the visiting team played well too. But my boys put in their best and played very well. As usual we created chances and Congo converted their only chance.
Siasia should be wary of Claude Leroy’s tactics, technical master class and do everything possible to stop the Congolese.
Siasia took confidence in the knowledge that Claude Leroy’s team is now familiar and would be stopped in Pointe Noire.
“As regards the second leg match, we know the Congo team now unlike before. They came to defend. So when we play in Congo we will defend too and wait for our chances to score because we are a side that creates lots of chances in every match,” he said.
“We will go there create these chances and try to convert them too. You know that they need to score so it won’t be the same way they played here that we would play at their home.
“Since they will come out to attack, we will attack as well as defend. I am confident of getting the needed result to move ahead and qualify.”
Siasia need to make drastic move to strengthen the attack and solidify the defence ahead of the crucial return leg in Cong
Nigeria cannot afford to witness another football nightmare after the Super Eagles failed to make it to the last Nations Cup.
Siasia must also intensify preparations for the potentially explosive return leg in Pointe Noire.
The aggregate winner of the two-legged encounter will qualify for the eight-nation CAF Under-23 Olympic Championship in Senegal where the top three teams qualifies for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Dream Team VI narrowly edged Congo 2-1 with the return legs in Pointe Noire on Sunday, August 2nd.
