Sola Fajana, vice chancellor, Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), has urged the National Universities Commission (NUC) to harmonise its underlying obligations with those of professional bodies in order to avoid clash of responsibilities and further strengthen its supervisory and quality assurance role of the Commission and professional bodies.

Universities can perform better in their duties and ensure they meet all the legal requirements by the NUC and their respective professional bodies if the cost of hosting the two bodies could be minimised, Fajana said. Some of these funds, according to him, can be better used for sustained development of the universities.

The don, while speaking at the accreditation exercise of the university by the NUC, said that JABU was committed to adhere to the requirement of the NUC and all relevant professional bodies and meeting up to global standards.

The university is wholly committed to the mission of providing teaching, research and service that would encourage learning and stimulate academic exchange at both national and international for a, he said.

The vice chancellor requested for more support of the NUC by ensuring that the high standard of the university education remained thorough and painstaking, saying at this time of our national life, the quality of university education should only upgraded and not remain the same if the envisaged brighter future of the younger ones must be a reality.
