Five Nigerian states with the most IGR in 2017

Lagos, Rivers, Ogun, Delta and Kano states, generated the highest revenue in Nigeria in 2017, as compiled from the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Lagos state had the highest revenue generated among the states in Nigeria; its revenue was up by 10.43 percent from N302.4 billion in 2016 to N333.9 billion in 2017.

 

Rivers state followed with N89.4 billion internally generated revenue in the period under review. This was an increase of 4.92 percent compared to its N85.2 billion generated the previous year.

 

Ogun, Delta and Kano states generated N74.8 billion, N51.8 billion and N42.4 billion in 2017 compared to their internally generated revenue in 2016, which was recorded to be ; N72.9 billion, N44 billion and N30.9 billion respectively.

 

Thirty-one (31) States however  recorded growth in IGR while five (5) states which includes; Akwa Ibom , Anambra , Bauchi, Osun and Taraba states recorded a decline at the end of 2017 Fiscal Year.

 

The full year 2017 state IGR figure hits N931.23bn compared to N831.19bn recorded in 2016. This indicates a growth of 12.03 percent year on year.

At the end of full-year 2017, total revenue generated by states was put at N432.65billion as against N409.09billion in half year of the same period.

The net revenue allocation in year 2017 is put at N1.73 trillion while the total revenue available to the states is put at N2.67 trillion.

However, the value of foreign debt stands at $19.9bn while domestic debt hits N3.35 trillion at the end of 2017 full year respectively.
