Buguma modern fish farm project suffers power supply setback

BusinessDay

The multi-billion naira modern fish farm project in Buguma in Asari Toru council area of Rivers State, expected to bridge Nigeria’s N6 trillion annual fish import, is in need of power supply system.

The chairman of the council, Flag Amachree, has cried out to the state government which has promised to begin electrification of the complex. The council boss led a team of engineers to the state government in search of solution to the threat of power time-off.

The council has been saddled with powering the complex with diesel plants but the cost of diesel seems to have been distasteful.

The council said it wished to be saddled with providing lines to the place while the state government should carry the main power supply burden.

Augustine Wokocha, commissioner, Ministry of Power, in his response, told Amachree that modalities have already been set in motion to provide electricity to the fish farm.

He promised to send some engineers from the ministry to inspect the fish farm premises, the facilities on ground, etc, so as to be sure of what to do.

The commissioner directed Kidrom Israel, the managing director of Onida Development Limited, the company handling the project, to expedite action to ensure that the project meets its three weeks deadline. Meanwhile, the state government has commended the consultant handling the unemployment data bank computation for completing the job according to specification and under stipulated time frame.

Commissioner for employment generation and empowerment, Ipalibo Macdonald Harry, said this during the hand-over ceremony of the data base system by the consultant, Fubara Blessing.

Harry said that the data base was geared towards providing avenue that would facilitate employment to Rivers indigenes, stressing that the bank would also serve as a parameter to get the statistics of the unemployed graduates in the 23 local council areas.
