Amosun lauds Osunkeye’s economic contributions, investment expertise in Nigeria

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has lauded the economic impacts of Olusegun Osunkeye during ‎his chairmanship of Nestle Nigeria, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria and Lafarge Africa, now LafargeHolcim, saying the septuagenarian is an achiever in the country’s economic terrain.

Amosun, who was represented by his deputy, Yetunde Onanuga, at the celebration of the industrialist’s 75th birthday ‎held in Ikeja, Lagos on Monday, disclosed that Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole had witnessed great economic growth through patriotism and selfless efforts of Osunkeye and other industrialists in the country.

While recalling Osunkeye’s economic contributions to the country from the days of UAC, Nestle Nigeria, Lafarge WAPCO and GlaxoSmithKline, the governor said government and people of Nigeria, especially “government and people of Ogun State, where the celebrant hails from,” ‎should begin to celebrate and recognise patriotic and economic contributions of such people in order to convince them to do more.

“The celebrant of today, Chief Olusegun Osunkeye, I would say, is a rare gem, an industrialist, captain of industries and an icon of our time. He has really touched so many lives in the last 75 years.

“We are celebrating God’s faithfulness on him, and the people of Ogun State being led by Governor Ibikunle Amosun have every course to celebrate him (Osunkeye) ‎because he has really contributed toward economic and infrastructural development of the state and the country at large,” the governor said.

Meanwhile, the 75th birthday was well attended by prominent Nigerians and representatives of the various industries, including manufacturing, banking‎ and pharmaceutical firms, among whom were GlaxoSmithKline Nigeria plc, led by Lekan Asuni, its managing director; FCMB, led by Subomi Balogun, its founder and chairman; MAN, Ogun State chapter, led by Wale Adegbite,; Nestle Nigeria Plc and LafargeHolcim.
