Burger King, a global fast-food powerhouse, has officially opened its first outlet in Awka, capital of Anambra State, marking a significant milestone in its expansion across Nigeria.
At the recent grand opening in the Eastern state, the excitement and anticipation of residents was palpable.
Rushdi Ibrahim, managing director of Burger King Nigeria, expressed his delight at the warm reception from the people of Awka and reaffirmed the brand’s confidence in its investment.
“When we considered potential locations for our first outlet in Anambra State, Awka stood out. It’s a vibrant, cosmopolitan city with immense potential, and we’re proud to be here,” he noted.
“Since our launch in Nigeria in 2021, we’ve expanded to 23 outlets across seven states.”
He explained that the food brand is not just introducing a restaurant, but bringing in a lifestyle defined by quality, taste, and innovation. “With this new Awka location, our 24th store, we’re excited to continue this growth journey, and we aim to be in 15 states by the end of 2025.”
Rushdi, who is also the chief executive officer of Burger King Nigeria, hinted at plans to open another outlet in Onitsha, a major commercial hub in the state, as part of the brand’s broader strategy to reach more customers and tap into high-demand markets.
“Our goal is simple: to serve great-tasting food the way people love it, combining global standards with local flair. Awka was a clear choice for us due to its strong customer base and market potential,” he said.
On his part, Chinedu Okafor praised the fast-food brand’s decision to invest in the state and pledged the local government’s support. “Burger King’s presence is a welcome development. We believe this will not only boost the local economy but also promote tourism and job creation in Awka and beyond.”
With its entry into Awka, the fast food company continues to position itself as a leading player in Nigeria’s fast-growing QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) sector, offering a unique blend of international flavour and local relevance.
Residents can now enjoy world-class service, flame-grilled meals, and an iconic brand committed to delivering quality, convenience, and a memorable dining experience.
The event drew the presence of high-profile dignitaries, including Onyeka Ibezim, deputy governor of Anambra State, and Pius Okoye, deputy speaker of the Anambra House of Assembly, among others.
