Samson always looked for new and exciting ways to celebrate our wedding anniversary every year. Our friends looked forward to our anniversary like it was theirs. He tried to outdo himself each time so he had people waiting to see what he’d do next.
Samson had planned our 35th wedding anniversary to be very special. We had a full house. Our three children and five grandchildren under one roof, I was counting my blessings.
Dinner was at the roof top of a five star hotel. It was a beautiful evening, the stars were shinning to complement the decor, the food was amazing, the music was on point, the whole ambience was just superb. Everything was fine and I had a smile sitting pretty on my face. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
Samson came to stand beside me. My Sammy. My man. My husband of 35 years and friend of 42 years. We have been through a lot together, stood by each other through thick and thin, built a strong and beautiful family and weathered lots of life’s storms as a team.
As usual, he had a gift for me and he asked everyone to sit down as he presented it. The gift was in a brown envelope. It looks like I’m about to tick one of the things on my bucket list.
I’ve always wanted to visit Turkey, maybe my husband finally got tickets for us and was going to surprise me with it. I had butterflies in my belly. I was very excited as I opened the envelope, my smile was so wide, I couldn’t contain myself, I could actually hear my heart beating to the rhythm of the soft music sifting from the speakers. Then suddenly, my smile turned into a frown as I saw the contents of the envelope.. Divorce papers?! This wasn’t April fool’s day so it had to be a sick joke. I passed the papers to my children and they were all shocked. Divorce papers? Why? How?
We demanded an explanation from him but all he said was that he has not been happy for a while and he needed to move on. He dropped his wedding ring on the table and walked away. Our children tried to go after him but I called them back. If Samson wanted to leave me.. he was free to do so. If he wanted a divorce.. he could have it. This would only hurt me for a while but I wasn’t going to kill myself over a man.
It was a difficult time I must admit, but with the love and support I received from my children, I was able to go through the divorce and the drama that accompanied it.
Was I really surprised at Samson’s behavior? Well, not really. I’ll let you in on something.
A few years ago, Samson had registered and became a gold card member at the Inland Tennis and Squash Club. It wasn’t long before I began to notice changes in him. There were strange phone calls at odd hours and the password on his phone. Then I noticed the extra effort he put into his looks and he even got a boyish haircut to go with his new style. I loved the way he looked. I loved his transformation but I knew he was doing it to score some points with the ladies especially after I saw lipstick stains on his shirts a couple of times. I thought it fascinating that women found my husband attractive and I teased him about it but he swore on his ancestors graves that he would never cheat on me.

There were signs that a lot of things were not right, so one night while Samson was fast asleep, I picked up his phone and tried to unlock it and it opened at the third attempt. I took my time to go through his messages and I was surprised to read my husband’s exchange about his plans to get a young girl to replace me because he needed some excitement in his life.
I confronted him with my fears and concerns but he denied it all. He’d look me in the face and lie to me blatantly. I was upset, very upset but I decided not to make a fuss about it, I’d rather help him achieve his plan faster.
So I took my time and did my homework properly then I employed the services of a beautiful student from the school of science and technology. She came highly recommend by my source. She was a brilliant girl who because of her financial situation was forced to sleep with men to pay her bills. Her job was to get Samson to fall in love with her and she was expected to do everything I asked of her.
In return, I promised to pay for her tuition until she graduated. She asked why I was doing this to my husband because she wanted to be sure what she was getting herself into. And after hearing my story, the young girl promised to do everything within her power to help me. Samson reminded her of her father and in her opinion such men deserved to be taught a lesson.
A few months later, Sassy… that’s her name, informed me about Samson’s plan to divorce me. He was in with her and was willing to do anything to keep her. One fateful day, after a sexual romp between the two, Samson threw caution to the wind and ignorantly signed off some documents transferring some of his properties to her. Little did he know that he was making those transfers to me and not Sassy. And like Samson in the Bible, he signed off his destiny while basking in the bossom of a damsel.
How could he be so blinded by his feelings that he could not read through what he signed?
What kind of man was willing to sacrifice 35years of marriage for pleasure?
Anyway, after the divorce was finalized, I made sure I rewarded Sassy for a job well executed. I helped her get admission into a school in Canada. I was going to keep my end of the bargain and help her actualise her goals. She was a good girl but life happened to her. Because she came through for me 100%, I was going to make sure she’d never have to sleep with another man to pay her bills ever again.
I hear Samson was really devastated after Sassy left him. His friends are worried about his mental health and I tell myself that that could have been me if I hadn’t acted fast. His Sassy was gone and he was miserable without her.
More terrible was the fact that all her social media accounts have been deleted and he can’t reach her. Well, he’d never find her because her name isn’t Sassy… that was just an alias.
After all these years, Samson chose to leave me, because of what? Because of “excitement”, well guess who is excited now.
You see, when Sassy mentioned the divorce to me, I tried to convince myself that Samson would not be so stupid to throw away everything we have just like that. Then when he started planning towards our anniversary, I was happy. I thought things were going to change for the better. I actually thought the brown envelope he handed me at the party were tickets for a getaway instead he chose to insult me before our children.
Good girl Sassy, she was smart enough to ensure that he signed off more than just his properties to me.
Ah! by the time I’m done with Samson, he won’t even know what hit him. “I’m going to shave off his locks and they will never grow again”.
A tsunami is heading his way and he won’t see it coming. Samson thought he could serve me breakfast but I had a three course meal prepared for him. Maybe he didn’t get the memo that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
