When it comes to wigs, weaves, or hair extensions, the options can be overwhelming. The three most common types are human hair, human hair blend, and synthetic hair. While they may look similar at first glance, each type has unique qualities, benefits, and drawbacks that make them suited for different needs.

Here is what you need to know:

Human hair

Human hair is made entirely from 100% real human hair, giving it the most natural look and feel. Because it is real, it behaves just like your own hair, it can be washed, dyed, straightened, curled, and styled with heat tools.

Pros: Long-lasting with proper care, natural movement and shine, versatile for styling.

Cons: More expensive than other types, requires maintenance similar to natural hair.

Human hair is usually the top choice for people who want a natural appearance and are willing to invest in both cost and upkeep.

Human hair blend

Human hair blend combines both real human hair and synthetic fibres. The ratio of each can vary, but the goal is to give the softness and realism of human hair at a lower cost.

Pros: More affordable than 100% human hair, often looks and feels natural, easier to style than full synthetic.

Cons: Does not last as long as human hair, may not handle heat styling as well depending on the fibre content.

Blends are a good middle ground for people who want some of the benefits of human hair without the full price tag.

Synthetic hair

Synthetic hair is made entirely from man-made fibres designed to mimic the look of natural hair. Modern synthetic hair can be very convincing, but it has limitations.

Pros: The most affordable option.

Cons: Shorter lifespan, less natural movement compared to human hair.

Synthetic hair works well for short-term use.
