What started as an idea in a car park has evolved into a thriving ecosystem, transforming the new media landscape and empowering young African minds to tap into opportunities in the sector.

Oluwatosin Ajibade, Convener of the New Media Conference and popularly known as OloriSuperGal, has spent the past decade gathering media professionals from across Africa to discuss the ecosystem, media, and the future of new media in Nigeria and Africa.

For 10 years, the event has provided a platform for both emerging talent and seasoned professionals to connect, collaborate, and drive innovation.

Themed ‘A Decade of Disruptors,’ this year, the conference will expand to Accra, Ghana, with the goal of engaging more African minds in sharing their perspectives on the evolution of new media and empowering the next generation of Africans to benefit positively from the space.

“Ideas can come from anywhere,” Ajibade said during a press conference in Lagos to announce this year’s event.

“The idea for this event started in a car park with a friend, and 10 years later, we’ve had 12 editions, some in Lagos and some in Nairobi. We’ve also hosted school debates, which have been a huge success.”

Olufemi Oguntamu, CEO of Penzarville Africa and Lead Creative at Rivil Consult, praised the event’s growth, saying, “It feels like a baby that we all saw growing, and I’m glad we’re here now. The journey has just begun.”

Ajibade emphasised that the conference aims to create impact in society by empowering young people to engage critically with real-world issues and envision the future of media from their unique perspective.

Through the school debates program, which started in 2017, students have been encouraged to think creatively and develop solutions to problems in their communities.

The conference has not only influenced industry standards but has also created a space for emerging talent and seasoned professionals to connect, collaborate, and drive innovation.

Ajibade noted that the event has broadened the horizons of young minds, encouraging them to dream bigger and aim higher in the fields of media and technology.

This year’s conference promises to be bigger, bolder, and more impactful, with pioneers, trailblazers, and forward-thinking minds from the industry coming together to share insights, strategies, and stories that reflect the past, present, and future of new media.

The New Media Conference 2025 will take place in Lagos on September 27, 2025, with the school debate and Nairobi edition following in October.

The Accra edition will hold in November. Ajibade invites everyone to be part of this momentum experience, whether you’re a newbie or an OG in the industry.
