The hope of Internally Displaced People across the country may have risen following Access Bank Plc plans to extend support to them. This is in addition to numerous support given to the vulnerable children in the country.
There are about five million displaced people worldwide but Nigeria has about one million of that population.
Victor Etuokwu, executive director personal banking, said the bank will partner UNICEF, Fifth Chukker to see how they can be of help to thiese IDPs and vulnerable group in the society, adding that the bank has passion to be responsible citizens.
“The least we can do is working with UNICEF and Fifth Chukker to see what we can do to support the good works they are doing for orphans and vulnerable children”, Etuokwu said in Lagos on the sideline of Access Bank/ UNICEF Charity Polo Shield and partnership on educational development projects.
He said the partnership with UNICEF and Fifth Chukker is to maximize opportunities to target children and families in need in Kaduna, adding that the charity shield competition is basically targeted to benefit these set of children.
He reiterated the bank’s commitment to continue its support to schools as the previous supports have led to significant increase in the enrollment figures of those schools.
Blessing Ejiofor, Communication Officer for UNICEF, who represented the Country Director, said UNICEF’s partnership with Access bank for 10 years is laudable because it has promoted the core mandate of UNICEF which is assisting the less privilege in the society.
According to her, UNICEF ‘s mission in Nigeria is to help governments at all levels, organizations, communities and families, provide every child with education, health, equality and protection.
Ejiofor said with the partnership which is been funded by Access Bank, UNICEF has been able to provide a child friendly and qualitative education to children in Kaduna.
She said with the Kaduna state government’s free meals for school children in the state coupled with the assistant of the bank every child in the state is desirous of education.
“We are happy because with the funding that was released by the bank, a lot was been done in these schools which include, refurbishment, building blocks of classrooms with state of the art libraries, toilets, potable water, fence and everything children needs in a school,” she said.
