More than 1,000 athletes are confirmed to participate in the MTN Champs Continental Relays, scheduled from April 9 to 12 at the UNILAG and YABATECH Sports Complexes, Lagos.
MTN Champs, Nigeria’s premier grassroots sports competition, a partnership between MTN Nigeria and Making of Champs (MoC), serves as a crucial platform for young athletes to exhibit their abilities and potentially represent Nigeria internationally.
Osaze Ebueku, Senior Manager, Go-to-Market at MTN Nigeria, emphasised the long-term vision of MTN Champs during the Benin Classics event.
“We’re building future Olympians for Nigeria. MTN Champs is about more than competition. It’s about changing lives.”
The Continental Relays, the second phase of MTN Champs Season 3, follows the successful Classics competition in Benin, which saw 4,371 event entries from 2,056 athletes.
The Lagos leg has already garnered 2,821 event entries across various age groups as of March 24, demonstrating the growing excitement surrounding the event.
The registered athletes span four categories: 174 Cadet (U-14), 388 Youth (U-17), 270 Junior (U-20), and 279 Senior.
Organizers have issued essential guidelines for smooth participation. Cadet, Youth, and Junior athletes must provide signed Parental Consent Forms, and all registered schools and athletes must collect their competition bibs by April 8 at the competition venue to confirm their participation and secure their place on the start list.
