On Children’s day, NGO takes internet safety campaign to schools

The #NETSAFE campaign, a pet project of the Women Initiative Sustainable Endeavor (WISE) Initiative which aims at promoting best practices over cyberspace is promoting an annual tour of educational institutions with the #NETSAFE message tagged the “NETSAFEEDUTOUR” targeted at educating the young people on how best to conduct themselves on the internet and its society.

 

The project execution gravitates towards enlightening the public through an online hashtag/offline physical lecture campaign series against the wrong use and negative consumption of the internet in our community; while projecting more light on the positive use of the internet. This brilliant initiative sees the future of Nigeria in the youth and tailors its schools’ visits to educate children of all ages on the dangers of excessive internet usage.

The 2018 edition of the campaign kicked off on Thursday May 24, 2018 in Abuja and Lagos, it featured founding members of W.I.S.E. Initiative as well as zonal volunteer representatives in different states engage students in a 20mins educative and interactive session; the audience constituted of student representatives from various class/basics, teachers, members of staff and the PTA. The #netsafeedutour which has been adopted to be an annual campaign to mark World Children’s Day visited schools in Abuja FCT, Lagos, PortHarcourt, Calabar and Jos cities this year.

 

Due to the success of the 2017 campaign tour, the team planned towards adding up some states that were not involved in the previous campaign in this year’s pursuit. Some of the schools visited during this year’s campaign include Reagan Memorial Girls Baptist Secondary School, Yaba in Lagos, New Vine Academy Bwari, in FCT, Abuja and St Alexis Montessori International School, Port Harcourt. The long term plan of the campaign is to tour all 36 states of the country and the FCT in driving the #netsafe message to young children everywhere. The #netsafe campaign 2018 is expected to run through till Wednesday May 30, 2018.
