Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera, taking their summer transfer spend close to £140 million.
The 21-year-old Spain U21 international joins for an initial £13 million fee plus performance-related add-ons, signing a five-year contract with the option of an additional year.
Mosquera, who made 41 appearances for Valencia last season, becomes Arsenal’s fifth summer signing. He is expected to provide depth behind William Saliba and Gabriel, with the versatility to play across the back line. He has already linked up with the squad for their pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong.
“It means a lot to me,” Mosquera told the club’s official website. “There’s been a lot of hard work behind all of this. I’m joining a historic, massive club. When you arrive here with your family, you really feel the greatness of this place.”
Manager Mikel Arteta described Mosquera as “an intelligent player with good pace, who can play centrally and on both sides.”
The Spanish defender follows midfielder Martin Zubimendi, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, and winger Noni Madueke in making the switch to the Emirates.
Gabriel and Myles Lewis-Skelly have also signed new contracts, with a long-term extension for teenage prospect Ethan Nwaneri reportedly close.
Arsenal are still pursuing Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyökeres, but no agreement is believed to be imminent. The Gunners kick off their 2025/26 Premier League season away to Manchester United on August 17.
