…reunites to support alma mater
Kehinde Mojeed, chairman board of trustees, Ajumoni Grammar School Old Students’ Association Lagos has appealed to teachers to dedicate more attention to secondary school students in the country as it is crucial for personal and academic development.
Mojeed who made the call while speaking at the maiden edition of the association’s reunion, which held in Lagos, affirmed that when students are given quality attention it would improve the standard of education in the country.
While comparing the standard of education between now and when he was in the post primary school, he affirmed that the difference is clear adding, “In those days teachers give much attention to the students because they do not have other jobs than teaching and ensuring the students perform well in any examination, but l doubt if it is the same today as they have other engagements to make ends meet’’.
However, he expressed the association’s determination to establish tutorials classes for the students so they can perform well both in the internal and external examinations.
On the gathering which had in attendance various sets of students since the school inception in I983 till date, he said worth its while, adding that it offered the alumni members’ opportunity to discourse how to further support their alma mater.
He further described the event as a unique one and added that the school since its establishment had produced great men and women in the society. Mojeed who is also a pioneer student of the school, stressed the need for the association to greatly support the school which according to him had invested much on them and made them what they are today.
“This school has molded us and made us what we are today and there is need for us to give back to the school what the school has given to us” he said.
Also speaking during the event which held at the school premises in Okota area of Lagos, the convener of the gathering, John Udeme Charles described the occasion as a dream come true adding, that the reunion did not only gave the members of the association opportunity to deliberate on how best to support their alma mater but also brought friends of many years together.
On the other hand, he appealed to youths to shun negative use of social media so as to succeed in their academic pursuit.
Driving his point home he said: “despite the facts that social media comes with its positive impacts, most students abuse it wrongly there by deviating the purpose of them going to school and doing irrelevant things’’.
However, he advised parents to monitor the activities of their wards on the social media, adding that such efforts would go a long way in checkmating what they do.
On his part, the principal of Ajumoni Grammar School, Adegboyega commended the contributions of the association to the development of the school.
While also speaking during the event, the current head boy and head girl of the school said they were honoured and glad acquainting with their seniors saying: “we are not only inspired by them to achieve greatness and success, but they have left a great legacy for the students to live on’’.
They also expressed their gratitude for what the alumni has done for the development of the school.
