Gabon is set to position itself as a rising digital hub in Central Africa with the launch of construction on a state-of-the-art national data centre. The project, entrusted to leading infrastructure firm PORTEO S.A., marks a major step forward in the country’s push for digital sovereignty and economic modernisation.
The foundation stone for the facility was laid on March 27, signalling the start of a project that will not only support Gabon’s digital infrastructure but also provide long-term benefits across multiple sectors including health, education, finance, and science. Backed by a partnership between the Gabonese government and U.S. technology firm Cybastion, the initiative is part of the broader “Digital Fast Track” project.

Beyond providing secure, high-performance data processing and storage capabilities, the data centre will catalyse job creation and digital education. Through the DigiEmpower program, over 1,000 young Gabonese will receive training in digital skills, helping bridge the skills gap and prepare a new workforce for the tech-driven economy.
The facility is expected to include advanced features such as backup generators, climate control systems, and high-level cybersecurity protocols, ensuring both operational stability and data protection.
For PORTEO S.A., the project reflects the vision of its CEO, Hassan Dakhlallah, who has long advocated for world-class infrastructure across Africa. Under his leadership, the company emphasises excellence, international standards, and local capacity building.
