Super Eagles trio Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze have expressed optimism in Nigeria’s chances of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Nigeria finished as runners-up at the 2024 AFCON and will be aiming to go one step further in Morocco as they chase a fourth continental title, having previously lifted the trophy in 1980, 1994 and 2013.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Fulham TV, the Fulham trio of Iwobi and Bassey, alongside Chukwueze, said the team has a renewed determination to win the title this time around.

Reflecting on his development since the last AFCON, defender Bassey noted how experience has strengthened the squad.
“Yeah, 100%. I think at the last AFCON I was 23. I’ve matured, and a lot of the team have matured as well. We’ve gained a lot of experience, so it will be good for the team. Alex is in a different role now; he’s becoming more of a leader,” Bassey said.
Iwobi echoed those sentiments, stressing that winning the AFCON is the next step in the team’s progression.
“Basically, what he’s trying to say is that wherever you go, you always want to improve. The only way we can improve now is by winning it,” Iwobi added.
Chukwueze underlined his belief in the Super Eagles’ potential.
“So the first one was third place, the second one was the round of 16, and the third one was runners-up. I hope the fourth one, if Calvin Bassey decides to pass the ball to me, we will win it,” he joked.
