Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has expressed satisfaction with Nigeria’s performance following their hard-fought 3–2 victory over Tunisia in Saturday’s Group C encounter at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Nigeria survived a dramatic late scare from Tunisia in Fez to secure the win, becoming the second team to book a place in the Round of 16 of the 2025 AFCON.
The Super Eagles looked firmly in control after racing into a commanding 3–0 lead, with goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman.

The result secured Nigeria’s second victory of the tournament, moved them to six points and guaranteed top spot in Group C.
However, a spirited Tunisian comeback in the final quarter-hour turned the contest into a tense affair. Goals from Montassar Talbi and Ali Abdi gave the Carthage Eagles renewed hope, but Nigeria showed composure and resilience to hold on for a vital win.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Chelle praised his team’s intensity, ball recovery and overall dominance for much of the match.
“I’m happy, once again, with the intensity we showed for 75 minutes,” Chelle said, as quoted on the CAF website. “I’m pleased with how we recovered the ball both very high up the pitch and very deep.
“We were able to move forward quickly, but also to keep possession for long periods of the game. We created a lot of chances and opportunities to score.
“In the second half, up until the 75th minute, we deserved this victory because we were the better team. After that, Tunisia played with the energy that characterises them. Their first goal came from a set piece, and the second from open play.
“But once again, we deserved this win, and I think we were the better team in every area of the game. Of course, it would be nice to finish a match without having to suffer so much.”
