The Managing Director of ACCION Microfinance Bank, Olubunmi Lawson, says the bank is committed to improving the lives of low income people in Nigeria through provision of credit facilities.
Lawson made this known at the bank’s Annual Customers Forum held in Lagos on Saturday.
She said the bank would extend its branches to all states in the country to ensure that low income earners had access to its various loan schemes.
The microfinance boss said the bank had branches in 10 states including Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Cross Rivers, Ogun and Anambra among others.
According to her, despite the fact that the year has been a difficult one due to economic recession, the bank is able to weather the storm.
“The bank makes positive impact in improving the economic well-being of its customers and the community it operates,’’ she said.
According to her, the bank has disbursed over N14.33 billion from January to November to 49, 685 customers, bringing the total loan disbursement since its inception to N61 billion.
“The number of active loan customers grew from 43,788 in 2015 to 46,152, while accounts opened grew from 119,758 in 2015 to 142,261.
“We were also responsive to our customers in insurance claim settlement from various accidents during the year.
“We were able to clear the claims through our insurance partners with additional benefits credited to the victims’ accounts to enable them pick up their lives after the unfortunate incidences.’’
Lawson said the mandate in 2017 and beyond was to surpass 2016 achievements.
She said the bank would extend its branches to the Northern states, the launching of save “Brighter products’’ and other products were to serve customers better.
“We would also employ our customers’ wards as the bank extends to other states.
“We would also work harder to make our services more accessible than they are now, ‘’ she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that ACCION was licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 2007 to establish microfinance bank for empowerment of Nigerians.
