AC Milan have been cautioned against finalising a move for Nigerian forward Victor Boniface, with Italian media warning that the Bayer Leverkusen striker’s injury record makes him a “risky” signing.
The Rossoneri are reportedly close to sealing a deal worth around €30m, structured as an initial loan with an option to buy for €32m.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport has raised concerns over Boniface’s long history of fitness issues, which have disrupted his career at multiple stages.
According to the report, Boniface suffered two cruciate ligament injuries during his time at Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt, first in March 2019 and again in November 2020.
At Bayer Leverkusen, the problems persisted: in 2024, he missed three months with an adductor injury before being sidelined again later that year with a thigh problem, forcing him to sit out 12 matches.
The lack of consistency from the Nigerian player was emphasised by Gazzetta: “In Bayer Leverkusen’s five summer friendlies, he played a total of eighty-five minutes.
He did not play at all in his first competitive match of the 2025/26 German Cup, and he managed only one appearance on April 20, 2025, against St. Pauli, which was his last game in the Bundesliga.” In total, Boniface featured just 12 times in 2025, scoring only three goals.
Despite this, Milan see Boniface’s arrival as a solution to their striker crisis, with Rafael Leão sidelined by injury and Noah Okafor’s future uncertain.
When fit, the 24-year-old has been prolific: in his debut season at Leverkusen, he scored 21 goals in 34 matches and has 32 goals in 61 appearances overall for the club.
