The Authorities of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, have issued a query to one Okoromi Abhasebhor, a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, over an alleged rape of a food vendor on campus.
Emphraim Ikharehon Isiraojie, the Acting Registrar of the institution, issued the query on behalf of the school management.
The query entitled, “Re: Security Report on an alleged case of rape against Mr Okoromi Abhasebhor”, dated July 9, 2025, gave the suspect 48 hours to respond to the allegations.
Isiraojie said that the query was based on a security report which alleged that the suspect on July 9, 2025, raped one Vera Sunday, a food vendor in the Faculty of Physical Sciences.
The Acting Vice Chancellor Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Deputy Registrar, Personnel Acting Director, Legal Services PAR/Head, Information & Public Relations, and Chief Security Officer were all copied on the copy of the query by the Acting Registrar.
The query read in part, “Re: Security Report on an alleged case of rape against Mr Okoromi Abhasebhor (m).
“The university management is in receipt of a security report of an alleged case of rape against you on one Vera Sunday, a food vendor in the faculty of Physical Sciences on July 7, 2025.
“It was also alleged that you brought out bundles of money, begged her not to tell anybody, but the victim refused and made a report to her aunt.
“The security report also states that the victim was sent to Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital for medical examination and the results show that there was forceful penetration into her virginia.
“In view of the foregoing, you are required to explain within 48 hours through the Head of Department and Dean of your faculty, why disciplinary action should not be taken against you for this alleged gross misconduct”, he said.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, while expressing dismay at the incident, demanded the immediate suspension of the lecturer by the school management.
In a statement signed by Ojumoola Miracle Timileyin, Chairman, NANS JCC Edo and copied to the Edo State Government, NANS National President, Commissioner of Police, Edo State, and Director of DSS, Edo, said the suspension of the lecturer would serve as a deterrent to others in the institution.
