Four persons have been confirmed killed, while seven others were critically injured when a three-storey building collapsed in the Sabon-Gari downtown Area of Kano metropolis.
The number of dead persons in the incident which occurred on Abedi Street after a heavy rainfall on Sunday was confirmed by officials of the Kano State Fire Service and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Saminu Yusif, and Umar Madigawa, spokespersons of the Kano State Fire Service and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), respectively, confirmed that 11 persons trapped under the collapsed building were rescued.

According to them, the victims included construction workers and passersby who got trapped in an uncompleted structure while taking shelter during the rainfall.
Madigawa disclosed that the Kano operation office received a distress alert at 6:49 pm about the sad incident and immediately activated its Search and Rescue (SAR) response by mobilising a response team in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Providing insights about the incident, he further disclosed that as of 11:30 am on Monday, 11 victims have been rescued, among whom four were already dead and seven others alive, adding that they have been evacuated to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital for medical attention.
Madigawa also added that efforts were being intensified by the emergency responders to safely reach others who may be trapped under the debris.
