Vice President Kashim Shettima and Femi Gbajabiamila, chief of staff to president, have arrived in London to receive the body of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday.
The duo led a high-level Nigerian delegation to the United Kingdom early Monday, following a directive from President Bola Tinubu. The president had instructed them to oversee arrangements for Buhari’s return and burial in Nigeria.

On arrival in London, the delegation was received by Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s minister of foreign affairs, and Babagana Zulum, Borno State governor, among other officials.
Buhari passed away at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday in London, after a prolonged illness. Although details of the illness have not been made public, the former president had a history of seeking medical care in the UK during his time in office.
Buhari served as Nigeria’s military ruler from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.
