Nigerian sprint sensation Favour Ofili delivered a stellar performance at the Ed Murphey Classic in Memphis, finishing second in the women’s 200m final with a blistering time of 22.00 seconds.
The time stands as the second-fastest ever by a Nigerian woman, behind only her national record of 21.96 seconds set in 2022, a performance that made her the first and only Nigerian woman to break the sub-22 seconds barrier.
Ofili was narrowly edged out by American McKenzie Long, who stormed to victory in a season’s best of 21.93 seconds, one of the fastest times in the world this year. Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Brittany Brown settled for third in 22.17 seconds.
At just 22 years old, Ofili’s continued improvement and consistency on the global circuit underline her growing status as a medal contender.
With the World Championships fast approaching, her latest outing sends a clear message that she remains one of Nigeria’s top hopes for podium success.
