Ogun partners Lafarge Africa on re-cycled waste-to-energy production programme

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state has disclosed government’s intention of partnering with Lafarge Africa Plc on waste re-cycle and management across three senatorial districts in the state with a view to producing energy and generating employment opportunities.

He said the partnership would provide platforms for sustainable waste management that would help improve on people’s health and create employment opportunities through re-cycle and conversion of waste collected from various dumpsites to energy needed for socio-economic development.

Governor Amosun, who conducted a team experts from Lafarge Africa Plc being led by the new Group Managing Director, Peter Hoddinott to o Saje dumpsite in Abeokuta on Monday, confirmed Lafarge Africa’s readiness to collaborate with the government in the environment sector for effective management.He noted that the initiative would involve waste clearing, waste management and generation of renewable energy, adding that the partnership which would be focused on one dumpsite in each senatorial district would reduce the effects of human activities and pressures on climate change.

He said, “This initiative would help clear our waste and make us live healthy because carbon dioxide is a great challenge and dumpsite emission is 23 times more. With the sustainable waste management solution, we would generate much needed energy and employment opportunities for our teeming youths.”

Corroborating the governor’s statement on waste-to-energy programme and partnership with the State government, Peter Hoddinott, GMD, Lafarge Africa Plc, affirmed the company’s commitment to Ogun state socio-economic development, saying the combustible and re-cyclable energy programme would improve the State economy and create job opportunities.
