Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) head coach Luis Enrique has issued a strong warning to his players not to underestimate Chelsea ahead of Sunday’s 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final, despite their form and historic season.
Speaking ahead of the showdown at MetLife Stadium, Enrique insisted that the final is far from a done deal and that Chelsea, led by new manager Enzo Maresca, pose a serious threat.
“This is absolutely not going to be a simple formality,” Enrique cautioned. “Chelsea have a great squad. Enzo Maresca is doing a great job, and I really like what he is building. They are a very complete team.”
Victory on Sunday would see PSG complete an extraordinary clean sweep of titles this season, having already secured the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France double, followed by their maiden UEFA Champions League triumph in May.
“We want to finish this historic season in the best possible way,” said Enrique. “But we know finals are never easy. In a final, there’s always a winner and a loser — and losing doesn’t always mean you played badly.”
PSG reached the final in emphatic fashion, dismantling Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-finals, after putting four past both Atletico Madrid and Inter Miami in earlier rounds. Yet Enrique insists his team must remain grounded.
“We have to win this game to round things off. We will lose again at some point, because that’s the nature of top-level football. But this is a golden opportunity we must not waste.”
PSG captain Marquinhos echoed his manager’s sentiments, underlining the rarity and magnitude of the moment.
“This only happens every four years, and we don’t know where we’ll be in four years,” Marquinhos said. “We are fully aware of how important this final is.”
