Team Nigeria has officially released the list of athletes and officials set to represent the nation at the 3rd African U18/U20 Athletics Championship, scheduled to take place in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from July 16 to 20.
According to a statement signed by Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media to the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), a total of 96 athletes will compete across both age categories in what is regarded as the continent’s biggest youth athletics competition.

The breakdown of the team includes: U18 Girls: 18 athletes, U18 Boys: 24 athletes, U20 Women: 24 athletes, U20 Men: 30 athletes.
Supporting the athletes is a robust technical and support team comprising 22 coaches, 8 medical personnel, and 8 backroom staff, which includes physiotherapists, a psychologist, team secretary, media officers, and logistics coordinators.
The statement noted that all selected athletes have undergone mandatory doping tests and participated in intensive training camps and performance evaluations, underlining the NSC’s commitment to fielding a competitive and well-prepared squad.
In a recent tune-up event, the U20 women’s 4x100m relay team, featuring Lucy Nwankwo, Success Oyibu, Anita Itohan, and Chika Bakwunye, fine-tuned their baton exchanges at the AFN/Dynamic Athletics Meet, showcasing strong coordination and synergy ahead of the continental meet.
With over 40 African nations expected in Abeokuta, Nigeria is not just playing host, but aiming to assert dominance on home soil and continue its legacy in youth athletics.
The championship is also seen as a springboard for discovering and nurturing the next generation of Nigerian athletics stars.
