Start Innovation Hub has committed N40 million towards scholarships and discounts for digital skills training, underscoring its unwavering dedication to bridging the nation’s tech skill gap and empowering its youth.
Hanson Johnson, Start Innovation Hub’s CEO, said the investment is poised to be a game-changer in the drive to cultivate a robust and globally competitive tech workforce.
“The overwhelming response from our community regarding scholarships and discounts for digital skills training has truly reinforced our mission,” said Johnson.
The organisation’s core strategy for upskilling and reskilling the local workforce is rooted in a demand-driven curriculum and practical, hands-on training as the hub continuously engages with industry leaders and analyses global tech trends to identify critical skill gaps.
Its courses cover areas in web development, UI/UX design, data analysis, cybersecurity, python programming, and machine learning that are directly aligned with employer needs.
Trainees are immersed in real-world projects, building tangible portfolios, and benefit from instructors who are industry practitioners, bringing current best practices and entrepreneurial insights into the classroom.
To scale these initiatives nationally, the hub is actively pursuing strategic partnerships, having recently received partner recognition from the Federal Government and NBTE approval as a skill training center.
According to the organisation, the N40 million commitment towards scholarships and discounts is a clear demonstration of the hub’s readiness to support promising Nigerians, especially those from underserved communities.
Johnson foresees this investment having a transformative impact on Nigeria’s economic growth and workforce development, leading to reduced unemployment, increased innovation and entrepreneurship, diversification of the economy, attraction of foreign investment, enhanced global competitiveness, and significant social mobility for beneficiaries.
The CEO believes this commitment will enable at least 200 paid sign-ups for their digital skills training programs, with many more benefiting from discounts. Aspiring tech talents are encouraged to visit www.starthub.com.ng to explore the various scholarship and discount opportunities.
While physically located in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Start Innovation Hub’s programs are designed to reach Nigerians nationwide.
To scale this nationally, the chief excutive officer said, “we are actively pursuing strategic partnerships. We’ve recently received partner recognition from the Federal Government and NBTE approval as a skill training center, which are crucial steps.”
“We plan to collaborate with more vocational institutions and government agencies to integrate our industry-aligned curriculum into broader training initiatives.”
“Our hybrid learning models, incorporating online resources and regional pop-up bootcamps, allow us to reach a wider audience beyond our physical locations in Uyo.”
He stated that the hub envision establishing “TalentPort Academies” – its training arm – in key cities across Nigeria, replicating our successful model and leveraging local talent for instruction and mentorship.
*Beyond formal education, what role do apprenticeships, incubators, and mentorship programs play in your talent development pipeline, and how can these informal learning pathways be strengthened across Nigeria to foster a more robust tech workforce?”
