Ajibola Modile is the founder and CEO of ‘Sofas and More By MD’, an interior design and furniture production firm. Ajibola has a deep love for transforming spaces into something truly remarkable.
The Ijebu Ode, Ogun State-born designer started his business in 2022 with the sum of N5 million owing to his passion for interior designs, however, the company was incorporated in 2025.
Sofas and More By MD was born out of my passion for creating beautiful, functional spaces through interior designs, he said.
“From day one, we were determined to build more than just a furniture brand,” he noted.
“We set out to create a standard rooted in excellence, great customer experience, and innovation,” he added.
Ajibola said he was inspired into the interior designer business by the drive to redefine the perception about furniture in Nigeria, and the quest to elevate the standard, not just locally but globally.
“My interior business is not just about furniture alone, but about redefining perception, proving that world-class quality can come from right here, and elevating the standard, not just locally but globally.
“Over the years, I have built a reputation for blending functionality with beauty, and for holding every detail to a high standard. Whether it is creating custom furniture or curating a complete interior experience, my goal has always been the same: to deliver excellence consistently,” he noted.
He emphasised that the firm leveraged the power of social media, client referrals, and targeted sponsored ads to grow its visibility and reach.
According the product designer, as the word spread, so did the business impact. “We may not be where we ultimately want to be yet, but we are certainly not where we used to be, and that is clearly a sign of progress.”
Ajibola explained that though the journey began years ago fueled by clients’ genuine admiration for the custom furniture the company created as part of its design projects; the firm now has grown to having 25 skilled employees both corporate and contract.
Speaking about where he sources his raw material from, he disclosed that most of his raw materials are sourced from the Lagos local markets.
However, in evaluating Nigeria’s interior decor industry, he said the space is beautiful and fast growing; giving room to learn, grow and shine.
The interior designer revealed that his competitive edge amid high competition in the space is continually improving his standards, maintaining the standards consistently, and strategic partnerships.
Ajibola plans introducing complementary product lines, such as white label production for other brands, and franchise opportunity to locals and international, as his expansion plan.
Though, the business is faced with challenges such as scarcity of committed and skilled workers, fluctuation of materials cost, the furniture expert is determined to take his time to identify and understand the problem, then develop a smart yet calm, adaptive way to solve it.
‘Through it all, I make it a point to maintain a positive mindset,” he said.
Concerning the worsening cost of living in Nigeria, and how it affects his business, he said that naturally the surging inflation affects their sales.
However, he does not consider it as a setback, but as a challenge to confront.
“That is why we have rolled out value packed deals to help our customers get more while spending less; free delivery for purchases above N2 million in Lagos, five to seven percent discounts on all purchases.
“One hundred percent refund on site consultations when you purchase furniture from us. We also have more flexible options tailored to help scale our customers’ space affordably,” he said.
Moreover, he said that the company is not just selling furniture: “we are helping our clients and customers invest in comfort, function, and style, without stretching their budgets.”
To the upcoming entrepreneurs, he encouraged them to hold on to their passion, learn from those that have done it successfully, always choose value over money, honour every task, no matter how small, and most importantly, build the discipline of excellence.
