…As Police debunk threat, launch full security sweep
A leaked internal memorandum from the University of Jos security division has revealed a bomb threat targeting the institution, prompting heightened security measures across the campus.
The memo, dated July 4, 2025 began circulating online on Friday night causing widespread concern among students, staff, and the public.
The document, authored by Agama Solomon Tangni, acting Chief Security Officer (CSO), urgently calls on all base officers, unit heads, and security personnel to be on red alert and remain vigilant in light of credible intelligence pointing to a bomb threat specifically aimed at the University of Jos.
According to the memo, all individuals entering and exiting the university premises must be thoroughly searched to prevent potential attacks and ensure the safety of everyone on campus.
The acting CSO emphasised the importance of protecting all facilities under their charge, urging strict enforcement of security protocols.

The leaked memo was also copied to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), indicating that top university officials are aware of and responding to the threat. While no official public statement has been issued by the university yet, the leak has forced a swift security response internally.
The memo read: “I write this URGENT memo to notify you of a bomb threat in Jos, particularly targeting University of Jos.
Based on the security alert and information received, all Heads of Bases, Heads of Units and all personnel are to be on red alert and vigilant.
Please let’s take note and protect all facilities In our charge. All persons entering and exiting the premises of the University are to be searched properly to avoid falling victims.”
Sources within the university told Businessday that there have been no disruptions to academic activities so far, but security personnel have increased patrols and checkpoints throughout the campus.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command has dismissed the leak as mere rumours.
Alfred Alabo, the spokesperson of the command in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday in Jos said there is no credible evidence supporting these circulating reports on social media and other platforms.

Alabo said despite the lack of substantiation, Emmanuel Adesina the Commissioner of Police has taken precautionary steps to safeguard residents and maintain public safety.
“The CP has ordered the immediate deployment of the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit (Anti-Bomb Squad)to conduct a thorough sweep of the University of Jos Community and other vulnerable areas within the metropolis.
“He has also deployed well trained Bomb Technicians, Specialized Patrol Teams, and officers from the State Intelligence Department (SID) to certain flash points, in order to enhance the security architecture and ensure that our dear State remains peaceful and safe”; said.
The command while urging citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative in the face of these rumors also reassured the people of Plateau State that the police force is working tirelessly to guarantee their safety and security.
