Arsenal have completed the signing of Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea for a fee of £5 million. The 30-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Gunners, marking the latest addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad ahead of the new season.
Kepa, who remains the world’s most expensive goalkeeper following his £71 million move from Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea in 2018, spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, where he impressed with 35 appearances.
“I’m really, really happy to be here—really excited and looking forward to what is coming,” Kepa said.
“The ambition that is shown in this club, when I talked with Mikel [Arteta] and Inaki [Cana], how much they showed me their desire to win… I think we are so close to winning, and, hopefully, altogether, we can achieve it.”
The former Chelsea No. 1 brings vast experience, having made 163 appearances for the Blues and winning the Champions League, Europa League, and FIFA Club World Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge.
He also enjoyed a successful loan spell at Real Madrid in 2023/24, contributing to their La Liga and Champions League double.
At Arsenal, Kepa is expected to provide strong competition for fellow Spaniard David Raya, who was the Gunners’ first-choice goalkeeper last season. Arsenal opted not to make Brazilian keeper Neto’s loan move from Bournemouth permanent, paving the way for Kepa’s arrival.
The move reunites Kepa with Arsenal’s Spanish coaching contingent and signals the club’s continued push for silverware in the upcoming campaign.
