Arsenal are reportedly stepping up their bid for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, with the Gunners ready to trigger the midfielder’s £68 million release clause, potentially beating fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur to his signature.
With just two years left on his current deal at Selhurst Park and interest in him peaking once again, Eze appears primed for a big move that reflects his consistent Premier League performances.
The 27-year-old Nigeria-born British midfielder has racked up 29 goals and 16 assists in three seasons with Palace, shining for a side largely anchored in mid-table.
Eze’s stock rose further last season after a standout campaign, which ended with him scoring the winning goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, a moment that caught the attention of Europe’s elite.
Long linked with Spurs, the north London club had been favourites to sign him this summer. However, The Sun reports that Arsenal have now taken the lead in the race.
Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta is said to have already held talks with Eze’s representatives, laying the groundwork for a formal move.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs on talkSPORT, Arsenal are now in a strong position, especially with Tottenham backing away due to concerns over the financial structure of the deal.
“Tottenham have backed off in the last few hours,” Jacobs said. “Although their interest was genuine, it’s now nothing more than that. Eze to Arsenal could be one to watch, especially if their pursuit of Rodrygo doesn’t materialise.”
