France international Paul Pogba has signed a two-year deal with AS Monaco, marking his return to competitive football after serving a doping suspension.
The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder has been without a club since mutually terminating his contract with Juventus in November 2024.
He had been provisionally suspended after testing positive for the banned substance dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) following Juventus’ opening match of the 2023/24 season.
Initially handed a four-year ban, Pogba successfully appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which reduced the suspension to 18 months, allowing him to resume his career in March 2025.
The 31-year-old’s move to Monaco is his first stint in Ligue 1, despite being born and raised in France. Monaco see Pogba as a top signing who can reignite the club push for Ligue 1 title.
The CAS ruling confirmed that Pogba had inadvertently consumed the banned substance and highlighted that its testosterone-boosting effects are only significant in females.
Pogba previously starred for Juventus, winning four Serie A titles, before making a then-world-record £89m return to Manchester United in 2016, where he lifted the Europa League and FA Cup. He also played a key role in France’s 2018 World Cup triumph, scoring in the final.
His return to top-flight football with Monaco offers him a fresh start as he looks to recapture the form that once made him one of the world’s most dynamic midfielders.
