Manchester United are reportedly weighing a summer move for Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, as the Red Devils look to reinforce their squad depth under incoming boss Ruben Amorim.
The 28-year-old Leicester City midfielder is attracting interest after the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship, with a £9 million release clause now active in his contract.
Ndidi signed a new three-year deal last summer, but the clause allows him to leave for a cut-price fee following the club’s drop from the Premier League.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs via The United Stand, United are monitoring Ndidi’s situation as they look for affordable midfield reinforcements later in the transfer window.
Ndidi, known for his tough tackling and defensive discipline, has made over 300 appearances for Leicester, scoring 18 goals and registering 22 assists.
He was instrumental in the club’s historic FA Cup win in 2021 and played a key role in their recent Championship-winning campaign.
Despite not being a guaranteed starter at Old Trafford, Ndidi is viewed as a reliable squad player who could add steel and depth in midfield.
He registered five assists in the Premier League last season and remains one of Leicester’s most experienced and consistent performers.
Former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy previously praised Ndidi’s commanding display against the Red Devils at Old Trafford:
“You’ve seen the game, the way he played, the way he lifted the team — on the ball, off the ball. His performance was excellent, but also his leadership,” said the Dutchman.
“He led by example, demanded more from teammates, and controlled the game brilliantly alongside Bouba [Soumare].”
