….As national finals dunks off in Lagos
Olabisi Joseph, president, Nigerian School Sports Federation (NSSF), has disclosed that Nigeria’s representative for the maiden African Schools Sports Games in Algeria, will emerge from the ongoing national finals of the Milo Basketball Championship.
According to her, winners of the 25th edition of the Milo Basketball Championship national finals at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, will be at the first-ever continental Schools Sports Games in July.
“Every basketball team in Nigeria today has at least one player who came through the Milo Basketball Championship,” Joseph said during the press conference to present the trophy by management of Nestle Nigeria Plc.
Wassim Elhusseini, MD, Nestle Nigeria, said the championship is not just about sports, but more about changing lives and impacting young boys and girls across Nigeria.
According to him, Milo is supporting the national basketball championship for Nigerian children to dream big and work harder beyond their limitation.
“Today marks not just the beginning but a start to the significant milestone which has seen us impacted lives in grassroots sports development.
“As you all know, producing champions on and off the court has always been our watchword. We are proud of the young players that have become role model in the community and the history we have made in the past two decades,” Elhusseini said.
Sam Ahmedu, president, FIBA Africa Zone 3, charged the students to emulate past and present heroes hoisting the country’s flag in the world of basketball.
“This is a legacy competition. Some of Nigeria’s greatest basketball talents started right here,” Ahmedu said.
