Star Lager’s hugely successful football platform, Star Football Superfans has witnessed yet another collapse by Chelsea fans on this week’s episode. After seven appearances on the show, which is part of Star’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding consumers’ passions, fans of the Stamford Bridge outfit have managed to avoid defeat only once.
The culprits this week were Adegboyega Temidayo Anthony, Ndinojuo Chiedozie M, Anthony David, Nicholas Chukwuma and Sheriff Apena, who called themselves Blue Rovers. Their opponents were Armoury FC, made up of Omobolaji Tayib Olatunji, Humphrey E. Ibe , Adekunle Adebiyi Andrew, Eze Victor and Fendi Mendieta. The host as usual was Mozez Praiz and from kickoff, the game looked set to go in a very different direction to where it eventually went.
Blue Rovers went ahead after Gboyega and Nicholas netted successive 20 and a 10-pointers to make the score 1-0. From that point on however, it was downhill all the way. With the first half ending at 1-0, Armoury FC never really looked like coming back. Perhaps thinking prematurely about the N1 million prize from Star Lager, Blue Rovers took their foot off the pedal in the second half. Unfortunately for them, Armoury FC capitalized on their slackness and answered their only question of the 2nd half correctly to level the scores at 1-1.

Extra time was where it really went pear-shaped for the luckless Chelsea fans as both Gboyega and Sheriff failed to make impressions on the audience during the debate segment and the Show Your Passion segment respectively. Armoury FC by contrast ratcheted up the pressure and the performances of Adebiyi and Ibe on both extra time segments left no one in any doubt as to where the N1 million grand prize was headed.
“Armoury FC!” announced Mozez Praiz at the end of the final vote. 3-1 to Armoury FC and game over. They thus got to go home with the bragging rights as well as the N1 million grand prize while Blue Rovers would doubtless have been kicking themselves after starting so well only to lose momentum. They would have to make do with the N100,000 consolation prize after playing their part in a thoroughly entertaining contest.
In its 12th of 13 weeks, Star Football Superfans is an initiative of Star that seeks to recognize and reward football fans for their knowledge, passion and support. Coming at a time when Star has carried out so many activities to reward the passions of customers, Star Football Superfans is the avenue that gives football fans a huge platform to showcase and celebrate their passion and be rewarded for it.
