Orji Kalu, senator representing Abia North in the senate, has alleged that elements within Nigeria’s political class are responsible for sponsoring the Boko Haram insurgency in an attempt to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Kalu said this during his interview on Channels Television on Monday, linking the ongoing insecurity to a broader political strategy, suggesting that the insurgency is being used as a weapon to destabilise the government.
He identified politicians, wealthy business figures, and senior civil servants as key actors behind the unrest, stating that their motives go beyond financial gain and are rooted in the quest for political power.
According to him, the violence is not merely a security issue but a politically motivated effort aimed at seizing control of the system through instability.
“The political class is behind Boko Haram. They are using terrorism as a tool to fight Tinubu, just like they did with past administrations,” the former Abia governor said
“They want to tear down the system just to grab control, and that’s not how power should be acquired.”
He urged Nigerians to prioritise national interest over personal ambition, emphasising the importance of unity and collective responsibility in addressing the country’s challenges and fostering development.
“If we consider ourselves friends and patriots, we should care about the ordinary Nigerian. We must work together to build a better country,” he said.
