Chelsea have turned down an offer to sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal after the winger failed to agree to personal terms with the Blues.
The 25-year-old England international joined the Blues on loan from Manchester United in August 2024, in a deal that included a conditional obligation to buy him for up to £25 million.
According to The Athletic, negotiations between Chelsea and Sancho broke down over personal terms, triggering a £5 million penalty fee that Chelsea must now pay to Manchester United.

Sancho had a mixed campaign for Chelsea, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. While he netted the third goal in Chelsea’s 4-1 UEFA Conference League final win over Real Betis last week, he managed just one Premier League goal after early December.
When asked about Sancho’s future following that victory in Poland, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca said:
“From now on, we are going to sit with the club and decide what happens next year.”
With no agreement reached, Sancho will now return to Manchester United, where his contract runs until 2026, with an option for a further year.
The winger originally signed for United from Borussia Dortmund for £73 million in 2021 but struggled to justify his price tag.
A public fallout with then-manager Erik ten Hag in the early stages of the 2023/24 season saw him frozen out of the squad before a brief loan return to Dortmund. He made just one appearance for United in the 2024/25 campaign in the Community Shield before joining Chelsea.
