Ogun State athletes staged a protest on Wednesday morning at Babcock University, the Games Village for the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2024, demanding the immediate payment of their allowances since the start of the event.
The athletes, who are among thousands camped at the university’s Games Village, blocked the main entrance, demanding immediate payment from the Ogun State Government.
The protest disrupted movement in and out of the Games Village, leaving athletes from other states stranded.

Many athletes scheduled to participate in Wednesday morning events were unable to leave the hostel premises, effectively placing them under “hostel arrest.”
The situation threatens to derail the day’s competitions, particularly at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Kuto and the Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja.
As of May 27, Ogun State sits in third place on the medals table with 46 gold, 31 silver, and 42 bronze medals, totalling 113. Despite the ongoing internal unrest, Team Ogun has remained competitive in the standings.
